It is calculated that more than 70 million sheep (mostly ewes) are currently grazing the grass of several countries of the European Union and of the UK. Some are expressly bred for their milk, some for their meat, some for their wool. They all need to be sheared at least once a year but most of the resulting tons of wool are sadly abandoned or buried or burned because there is no market for this important natural resource and no coordination for its processing with a re-cycling attitude.
Our mission
The mission of the EWE Foundation is to promote and facilitate the use of European wool for fiber craft activities such as therapeutic knitting in health and social sectors. Our objective is to encourage the exchange of information, knowledge and skills in this field as well as to develop and implement joint initiatives.
EWE is the bridge between wool breeders, processors and end users, with a particular focus on using European wool to improve wellbeing. Establishing, and growing a circular economy for wool, connects end users back to the sheep, farmers and origins of the products they enjoy.
